Tenterfield Shire Council covers an area of 713,439 hectares including mountains and rural landscape. The population is 7,024 and since 2005 this has represented an increase of 298 persons or 4.43%.
In addition to the main urban area of Tenterfield, the Shire includes the villages of Torrington, Mingoola, Legume, Liston, Drake, Jennings and Urbenville.
The Shire comprises five (5) Wards, these being A, B, C, D & E Ward.
