WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR OUR FUTURE?

Many things have changed over the last five years and it's time to once again take stock of our community priorities. Council is reviewing its 10-year Community Strategic Plan for our future and would like to invite you to share your vision.

The Community Strategic Plan sets the overarching direction for all of Council's services and programs and will be used to drive the delivery program for this term of Council. The plan also allows Council to work towards achieving the long term vision of the Community.

We're listening and together we can ensure we continue working towards a shared long-term vision for Tenterfield Shire Council.

With Council elections in December 2021, it is time for us to review the vision for Tenterfield Shire Council. We want to hear from you, the community, to help Council review and update our set of plans for the future direction of Council and the community for the next ten (10) years. Council is required by legislation to have a suite of Integrated Planning & Reporting documents and we will be undertaking community engagement where we will meet with the community to ensure you have your say.

From December 2021 through to early February 2022 we want to hear about your priorities and aspirations for the Tenterfield region. We will be visiting and talking to the community in Tenterfield, Mingoola, Jennings, Urbenville, Liston, Legume, Drake and Torrington.

Followed the engagement we will be updating our Community Strategic Plan and placing it on public exhibition. With an updated Community Strategic plan we will establish a new draft Delivery Plan, draft Operational Plan and Budget for 2022/2023 that will also be placed on public exhibition and then presented to Council for adopting.

On 1 October 2009, the NSW Government’s new framework for integrated planning and reporting for local councils came into effect.
 
Each council in NSW is required to prepare and review a number of plans, which provide details on how the council intends to deliver services and infrastructure in the short and long term, based on community priorities that have been identified through community consultation and engagement.
 
This web page has been designed to gather information from community members to review the existing Community Strategic Plan for Tenterfield Shire Council and revise our future 10 year vision where needed.
 
This vision will then enable Council to review its resources and strategies to ensure we deliver the vision.  Council developed the original plan locally with input from the community and other government agencies.

The Community Strategic Plan is the 10-year vision for Tenterfield Shire and sets the framework for all Council's activities and programs during the next term of Council. The Community Strategic Plan will inform Council’s four-year Delivery Program, one-year Operational Plan and related budgets. Being a long term plan, items may be raised that are aspirational in nature, due to being beyond the financial capability of the Council to deliver and/or raise items that are not within Councils range of services. To deliver the community strategic plan, including aspirational items where possible, Council will advocate for and work with other tiers of government and community groups to deliver the plan.  

NSW Integrated Planning & Reporting legislation requires that local government organisations have a Community Strategic Plan and review it with each new term of Council to ensure it's relevance with the current and future community. Beyond this, it allows for us to:
  • build a sustainable Council and Community
  • ensure that Council services are aligned with the Community’s desires and needs

The objectives, strategies and actions contained in the Community Strategic Plan will reflect the priorities and aspirations voiced by the community. All individuals and groups will be given opportunity to participate and have their say as Council undertakes the community engagement process in the drafting and public exhibition periods. It is very important that the plan recognise what is achievable and what is aspirational based on Councils financial resources to ensure that the delivery program (4-year plan) and operational plans (1 year plans) driven by the Community Strategic Plan are achievable.  

No. The Community Strategic plan will provide the high level overview of the communitys objectives and provide a vision for the next ten years. The detailed projects and services that will be delivered are outlined in the Delivery Program (4-year) and annual Operational Plans.

There are many ways you can have your say. You can provide feedback to Council in the following ways:

  • Fill out the survey on Councils website
  • Email or write a letter to Council
  • Phone Council and ask for your feedback to be recorded
  • Come and talk to us at one of the pop up sessions across the region.

Council values the communities input to the Community Strategic Plan and seeks to make it as easy as possible for residents and ratepayers to provide input to the plan.
